| Can lightning and other adverse weather conditions affect my DSL line? | Top | ||||
| If it leaves your house and it is in any way electrical, it can damage your equipment or even your computer. Lightning may strike the phone lines and cause dangerous spikes in the line. | |||||
| Can surge protectors be used to safeguard DSL equipment? | Top | ||||
| For all practical purposes, yes. A surge protector that hooks up to your phone line like the ones sold for analog modems should work fine. Also, the line to your computer should also have protection to eliminate the possibility of frying you computer and other peripherals. | |||||
| Will my telephone work if my DSL line goes down? | Top | ||||
| Most likely, yes. Your telephone will probably be all right. It is possible that your DSL equipment caused a failure. But, conversely if your telephone doesn’t work then it’s a safe bet that your DSL service won’t be available either. Remember that re-establishing your DSL connection might be as simple as rebooting your system. |
