What is DSL?   Top

In layman's terms, DSL means fast Internet access. DSL stands for Digital Subscriber Line because it involves the transmission of data in digital form. DSL technology uses ordinary copper telephone wire to transmit data at broad- band speeds of up to 7+ Mbps. This is the same wire that is already installed in hundreds of millions of homes and businesses throughout the world. DSL is an "always-on" service, thus eliminating the need to dial an external phone number for connectivity. In many cases DSL solves the bottleneck problems often associated with what is commonly referred to as the "last mile"- the link between the end-user and their network service provider. Before DSL became available, this link was achieved by using dial-up analog modems with speeds ranging up to 56 Kbps, and other less cost-effective options. The generic term for the family of DSL service is xDSL, where the (x) is a placeholder for the letter used for specific speed of DSL. Each DSL speed provides different data communication speed capabilities and limitations. Exact DSL service performance is based on the following factors:

1. The distance between a user's premises and the local telephone company's central office.
2. The DSL equipment used at both ends of the connection.
3. The service offering from the ILECs and CLECs.
4. The management of the network of the ISP you choose.

Is DSL available in my area?   Top
To determine whether DSL service is available at your location, go to the following URL: http://www.DSL-Modem-Internet-Access.com/. Click on the "Order Now" button then enter your address and telephone number in the spaces provided, and hit the 'Qualify' button. The distance of your premises from the phone company CO (Central Office) is one of the most significant factors in deter- mining availability of DSL service. In order for the current DSL service available through DSL-Modem-Internet-Access.com to work the CO must be within about 12,000 feet of the end-user. The ability to offer DSL in various regions is almost entirely dependent upon specialized routers called DSLAMs being installed in the phone company COs. The time and costs involved in installing this equipment has made DSL availability even in large metro areas a gradual one, but all DSL providers have committed to making the technology widely available in the year 2000. If DSL service from DSL-Modem-Internet-Access.com is not currently available at your location, we will allow you to enter your email address so you will be notified when our service becomes available to you.
